Receive the Baptism of the Holy Spirit
10 REASONS WHY EVERY BELIEVER SHOULD SPEAK IN TONGUES
"And these signs shall follow them that believe... they shall speak with new tongues" (Mark 16:17)
Every Christian should speak in tongues, it is a source of power in his everyday life and helps to see the blessings which can be theirs through appropriating the power of the Holy Spirit daily.
1. Tongues the Initial Sign
Acts 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
This is a supernatural evidence of the Spirit's indwelling.
2. Tongues for Spiritual Edification
I Corinthians 14:4 He that speaks in an unknown tongue edifies himself.
I Corinthians 14:2 For he that speaks in an unknown tongue speaks not unto men, but unto God: for no man understands him; how beit in the spirit he speaks mysteries.
I Corinthians 14:4 For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful.
God is a spirit. When we pray in tongues, our spirit is in direct contact with God, who is a spirit.
3. Tongues Remind us of The Spirit's Indwelling Presence
John 14:16-17 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever;
17 Even the Spirit of truth; who the world cannot receive, because it sees him not, neither know him: but you know him; for he dwells with you, and shall be in you.
Tongues is not only the initial evidence of the Holy Spirit's infilling, but is a continual experience for the rest of one's life. The purpose is to assist us in our worship of God. A flowing stream which should never dry up, and will enrich your life spiritually.
4. Praying in Tongues is Praying in Line with God's Perfect Will
Romans 8:26-27 Likewise the Spirit also helps our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
27 And he that searches the hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because he makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
Speaking in tongues keeps selfishness out of prayers. We don't always no what to pray, ..but the Spirit itself (himself) makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
5. Praying Tongues Stimulates Faith
Jude 20 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying the the Holy Ghost.
Praying in tongues stimulates faith and helps us learn to trust God more fully. If the Holy Spirit supernaturally directs the words I speak, faith must be exercised to speak with tongues.
6. Speaking in Tongues, a Means of Keeping Free from Worldly Contamination
I Corinthians 14:28 But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silent in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God.
This is a means to keep free from contamination of the ungodly, the profane, and all the vulgar talk in the public arena (the job, barber shop, school, bus, etc.)
7. Praying in Tongues Enables us to Pray for the Unknown
Praying in the spirit provides a way for things to be prayed that we wouldn't know anything about in the natural. the Holy Ghost, however, knows everything.
8. Praying in Tongues Gives Spiritual Refreshing
Isaiah 28:11-12 For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people.
12 To whom he said, this is the rest wherewith you may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.
This refreshing is speaking in tongues. We need this spiritual refreshing in these days of turmoil, perplexity, and anxiety.
9. Tongues For Giving Thanks
I Corinthians 14:15-17 What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.
16 Else when thou shall bless with the spirit, how shall he that occupies the room of the unlearned say Amen at thy giving of thanks, seeing he understand not what thou sayest?
17 For thou verily givest thanks well, but the other is not edified.
Praying in tongues is the most perfect way to pray and give thanks
10. Speaking in Tongues Brings the Tongue Under Subjection
James 3:8 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.
Yielding the tongue to the Holy Spirit to speak with other tongues is a giant step toward fully yielding all of our members to God.
After receiving Jesus as Savior and Lord you would like to receive the Infilling of the Holy Spirit (the Baptisim of the Holy Spirit) . . .
Pray This Prayer:
Father, I recognize my need for Your power to live this new life. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit. By faith, I receive it right now! Thank you for baptizing me! Holy Spirit, You are welcome in my life.
Some syllables from a language you don't recognize will rise up from your mouth. (I Corinthians 14:14) As you speak them out loud by faith, you're releasing God's power from within and building yourself up in the spirit (I Corinthians 14:4). You can do this whenever and wherever you like.
It doesn't matter whether you felt anything or not when you prayed to receive the Holy spirit. If you believe in your heart that you received, then God's Word promises you did. "There I say unto you, what things soever you desire, when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you shall have them" (Mark 11:24) God always honor His Word. Believe it!
